When do i give up?

I am a certified machinery and equipment appraiser. I have been marketing my service for close to a year now and to no avail I have not made any money. In this business you market to the banks. I have called on (really) every bank in the state of illinois and kept intouch with the chef lending officers/follow up,etc…. and know one seems to need the service most banks in Illinois are realestate banks and don’t secure loans with equipment.

Should I just give up and do something else or keep going. I cannot afford to keep throwing money at marketing the business.

what should I do?

Check with the trustees at Federal Bankrupcty courts. They could use some accurate appraisals.

Sounds like you have already given up but if you really have not then I would suggest lease companies or move. If you have been to all the banks and they do not need you try major corporations like the ones who make the equipment or try the companies that sell this equipment they most likely use appraisers.

but if you are at the point you describe it may be better to already move on and find something else you enjoy doing.

The people that need equipment and machinery appraisers are those going to a public auction. Find out where used equipment and machinery is being auctioned and see if you can get a bidders list.
